Moms Rose

Normally when I have art block, simply watercoloring will get me out of it. That didn't work. So I moved to the mother of paints (in my opinion) acrylic. and decided to paint a flower, because I had a 20-30 year old canvas my mom gave me from when she used to paint, and I wanted to use it.

So first I decided I wanted to draw this flower. Now, for some god aweful reason, before I started painting I painted the entire canvas YELLOW. Great. Anyway, I had no refrance, so I ran upstairs and threw things around my room (making it a mess) looking for my rose book, because I love roses. Score, I found it, and brought it down. So I began to paint my rose, it started as a purple BLOB.. which upset me, but I kept going, then I added darker shades, then lighter shades, and MY GOD.. it looked like a rose. So then I started on the step, put basic outlines, and then I put darker shades, and then lighter shades. and.. GASP. It looked like a fucking flower. MY GOD. YAAY. So I added a little white paint to give it a neat reflective effect, because, I dunno where I learned it, but I always thought that white lines and highlights looked kick ass. COOL.

Shit. The rose is a bit off center. And it looks bland? How can I spruce this peice up to make it FEEL finished? I went to the bathroom, because by now, I want to give this to my mom for christmas (because its beautiful) so I decided to get a pot she painted out of the bathroom that she put little abstract flowers on. Really pretty. You can't see them too well in this painting, but that pot and this painting, MATCH. Perfectly.

The canvas is 19x12 inches.. so sorry for the shitty web photo. I'll try and get a better photo.

So anyway, This is my peice "Mom's rose" which I indend to put in the frame of one of the peices Craig gave me back, and give it too her for x-mas. Along with the small cedar box that I am going to buy her.

*WHEW* sorry, I had to get that all out. This painting is.. alot to me.
